Jacob's First Birthday

Jacob spent the morning playing with his sister. This just barely started happening. She normally freaks out if he goes into her room. But she actually let him play inside her Rose Petal Cottage! It was super cute. (It's not a very good photo, though.)

Jacob's cousin Chase gave him this cute stuffed kitten. It had been Chase's very favorite stuffed animal when he was a bit younger. Isn't that the sweetest thing ever? (Grace seems excited about it. See her mouth at the top of the photo?) He got his first real boy toy. A dump truck. He loved it.
It even came with a little guy. We named him Buff because he looks just like him.Of course every toy must be examined by mouth.Cousin Nicholas really wanted to play with Jacob's new dump truck. Poor kid. Birthday parties must really suck when they're not your own. Some other kid is getting all these great new toys and you have to watch, but you can't play with any of it. Well, I guess that's why they invented party favors. (Too bad I didn't get any for this party.) And he needed to ride in his truck. He fits in it perfectly. He totally reminds me of his dad in this picture. He's already interested in the technical parts of vehicles.

Time for Birthday Cake. We had angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Jacob took one look at it and decided what he wanted. The strawberries. He tossed the cake on the floor. He at the whole berry, stem and all.Guess he realized that part wasn't very good.He looks drunken with berries. And a bit sleepy.Yep, definitely sleepy.

And at the end of the day, his favorite thing was a huge cardboard box. Typical.

Happy Birthday little kiddo.

Beautiful, You're Beautiful...

... As beautiful as the sun.
Wonderful, you're wonderful.
As wonderful as they come..."

More Interpretive Dance

This was a more somber dance. It’s kind of appropriate too because this was the day Grace missed her dance recital. While I was sick and in the hospital, Grace missed out on quite a few things. Also, the day I was admitted she was playing at her aunt’s house and knocked over a large glass vase. She cut her little foot so badly that she had to get 20 stitches in her heal. She couldn’t walk in for a while. She quickly learned to get around by first crawling, then scooting, followed by hopping on one foot and walking on her tip toe when it didn’t hurt so much. So, she missed several days of preschool, including two field trips and an end-of-the-year carnival. She also missed so many ballet classes that she didn’t know the routine. Poor girl. She probably suffered more than anyone from this whole ordeal. But we held our own dance recital at home.

It's Interpretive Dance

Grace likes to dress up in random costumes and dance around the house while singing one of her fabulous made-up songs. We'd just put on a bunch of "body stickers," we like to call them. (They're temporary tattoos.)

Just Hanging Out Together

My sister-in-law Tasha Robison is an amazing photographer. She took these photos (and most of the really good ones on my blog). We were at a park by our house. I was still in my pajamas because I was still sick. Wait. Nevermind. I always wear my pajamas all day.

Mealtime Fun

We have a lot of fun with Jacob during mealtime. He enjoys sucking on a dirty wet washcloth and using it to play peek-a-boo.

I got a pretty big kick out of this thing Jacob does with his leg whenever he is in his highchair. It’s definitely a Robison thing. I think quite a few of us habitually prop our leg up on a chair or something when we eat.

I'm pretty sure he was teething when these pictures were taken.

Playing Cinderella

Grace likes to play Cinderella. That means she cleans the house and has me be the Mean Step-Mother who has to keep asking her, "Are you still cleaning?" And she sings the song, Sweet Nightingale. Only, her interpretation is, "Sing sweet night and down." I like this game.

She is holding the Swiffer in this photo.

And washing dishes.
